The Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago is an iconic John Portman-designed Brutalist landmark hotel in Rosemont, Illinois. With 1,095 rooms and suites across 11 floors, the hotel is one of the largest convention and meeting destinations outside downtown Chicago and is conveniently located just minutes from O’Hare International Airport.Tranquility and noise reduction were central to the design philosophy behind the guest corridor carpeting. Curated by TVS Architecture & Interior Design, the textile selection was carefully considered to address the unique operational and acoustic demands of a high-traffic airport hotel set within a massive concrete Brutalist atrium. To meet these challenges, the expertise of Couristan’s custom Axminster carpet program was called into action. The resulting 80% wool/20% nylon carpet combines the performance and durability required for a demanding hospitality environment with a sophisticated design that complements the hotel’s distinctive architecture. Featuring a streamlined, contemporary palette, the carpet utilizes deep blues, grays, and soft earth tones accented by organic, flowing lines. The abstract patterns evoke aerial geography and high-altitude flight paths, creating a sense of visual calm for weary travelers.
