Project Overview

Calgary’s first and only lifestyle hotel The Dorian is named after Oscar Wilde’s classic novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, which commentaries on themes such as art, beauty and hedonism. The dual-brand Autograph Collection and Courtyard Marriott property features 306 guestrooms and is the first “stacked” hotel in Calgary’s downtown that caters to two distinct and discerning hotel guests. The hotel offers soul that blends modern comfort with British whimsy and local flavor, providing guests with a memorable, warm and fun stay. When developing a concept for the Dorian’s interior, CHIL Interior Design (Hospitality Studio of B+H Architects) in Vancouver, BC, drew inspiration from some of Wilde’s most notable traits including his unique take on society, his progressive sense of style, and love for the good life. Whimsical and playfully designed features are peppered throughout the property, while a saturated color palette of deep green, blue and purple is equally hip and restrained.  The layering of patterns and textures as seen in these woven Axminster carpets in the Public Areas and Guest Corridors, create spaces that tell the story of the famous author and playwriter imagining Oscar Wilde being alive today.
